Kōloa Union Celebrated 100th Anniversary as Grand Marshal in Parade

Contributed by Alan Akana, Kōloa Union Church

Kōloa Union Church (Kaua‘i) was the grand marshal in the Kōloa Plantation Days parade on Saturday, July 29, as we celebrated our 100th anniversary. The parade entry was titled “Many Cultures, One ‘Ohana, for 100 years“.

A Ford Model A sedan carried former pastors, John Lunn and also Nani Hill and her husband Jerry, who all flew to Kaua‘i for the celebration.

The float, which is a replica of our church building, was designed and built by our Chair of the Board of Deacons, Michael Horning.

As part of our parade entry, we had live music and hula.

In church on Sunday, we continued the celebration by honoring our past members of the church and reading a proclamation by Mayor Derek Kawakami.
