Nearly 50 people from Kaua‘i Association UCC (KAUCC) congregations marched together in the Kaua‘i Pride Parade on June 7. All three Open and Affirming congregations of KAUCC participated: Hanapēpē UCC, Kapa‘a UCC, and Kōloa Union Church. There were also participants from Līhu‘e Christian Church and Church of the Pacific in Princeville.

Rev. Dr. Alan Akana from Kōloa Union Church helped to organize the KAUCC parade entry. Kahu Akana said, “It was the first time we all walked together in the parade, and it was a strong witness to the island community that the United Church of Christ truly welcomes people from all backgrounds, cultures, sexual orientations, and gender identities. I am especially delighted that Kapa‘a United Church of Christ joined us this year as the most recent addition to the Open and Affirming ‘ohana.”
