Christians of various churches and traditions gathered for the 125th Annual Ecumenical Easter Sunrise Service at Pūowaina "Hill of Sacrifice" on the grounds of the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific ("Punchbowl") in Honolulu, Hawai‘i on Easter morning, April 5, 2026.
Kahu Kaleo Patterson shared this year's Easter message titled "This is the heart of Easter: Love that refuses to be defeated by violence."
This annual event is sponsored by the Hawai‘i Council of Churches Fund, of which the Hawai‘i Conference United Church of Christ is a part, along with the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai‘i, the Pacifica Synod ELCA, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Disciples of Christ, Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu, and United Methodist Church. Representing the Hawai‘i Conference in the service this year was Wendell Davis, Papa Makua of the Association of Hawaiian Evangelical Churches, and Josann Jenks, Kahu Pono of Kawaiaha‘o Church.
Each year, the Easter Sunrise Service Committee chooses an offering recipient. This year's offering will go to The Prison Ministries and Prison Reform Initiative of the Hawaii Diocese of the Episcopal Church.
