The Woman’s Board of Missions for the Pacific Islands is a group of compassionate Christian women coming from a variety of churches and ethnic groups. Our purpose is: * to inspire and empower women to become active Christians, nurturing the Spirit in their individual lives, homes, community and the entire world, * to educate and encourage children in their highest potential, and *to be in partnership with sister organizations sharing similar values.
Galatians 5:22-23 But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.
2 Corinthians 3:5 Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.
Philippians 3:15-16 So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us. If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision—you’ll see it yet! Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it.
Ephesians 4:24 Take on an entirely new way of life—a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you.
Galatians 6:9-10 So let’s not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don’t give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to us in the community of faith.
The WBM was founded in 1871 for the purpose of finding a female teacher for the girls at our mission station in Pohnpei, Micronesia. During the 13 years it took to find Annette Palmer, the WBM founded kindergartens and girls’ schools while reaching out to immigrants and Hawaiian women with the Gospel and language learning. Our first president, Clara Brewster Bingham, was the daughter-in-law of pioneer missionaries to Hawaii Rev. Hiram and Sybil Bingham; she also was a missionary to the Gilbert Islands. The Woman’s Board of Missions for the Pacific Islands has been ministering to missionaries in the field and neighbors at home ever since.
