Youth Event Scheduled for 200th ‘Aha Pae‘āina

The 200th ‘Aha Pae‘āina with the theme "Mai kēia hanauna a ia hanauna aku: From Generation to Generation" would not be complete without an opportunity for our youth to also come together!

Youth in grades 6-12 (ages 11-18) are invited to gather in-person for a faith-full "Xperience" and grow as a leader for their community! We will engage in fellowship, worship, reflection, service, art, and recreation as we gather for the 200th ‘Aha Pae‘āina of the Hawai‘i Conference United Church of Christ.

The youth event will take place on O‘ahu from June 16-18, 2022. Registration is open and the $50 cost includes airfare, lodging, ground transportation, food, and registration for the ‘Aha Makua (a great deal for sending your church's youth delegate, too).

You may register online by clicking the button below OR by mail by downloading the complete registration packet. Registration has been extended to May 16!

Meaning behind the name "Xperience"

A member of our planning team consulted with an 11th-grader who suggested "Experience." We did a little play on the word and used "X", the Greek letter 'chi' which is the first letter in the Greek word for Christ. We hope youth will encounter Christ during our time together and leave with a memorable and formative faith experience and some tools and skills (and experience) to grow as a leader for their communities.

Our current planning team

Malia Galindo, Church of the Crossroads

Sasha Kamahele, Kawaiaha‘o Church

Tiffany Marrotte, Kōloa Union

Danielle White, Hilo Coast UCC

Kalani Wong, Kamehameha Schools/Iao UCC

Kristen Young, Central Union Church, HCUCC Staff support

Chaperones needed!

We will definitely be needing chaperones/leaders/facilitators during the 3-day event in June! If your church is sending four or more youth, a chaperone from your church is required to accompany the youth throughout the event. Chaperones must be five years older than the oldest youth, so at least 23 years old. All chaperones must pass a background check conducted by the HCUCC office. Chaperones should download and complete this background consent form and submit it to the Hawai‘i Conference office as soon as possible.

If you have any questions or would like to volunteer with some aspect of the youth event, please contact Kristen Young (kyoung@hcucc.org).
