Churches Celebrate Henry 'Ōpūkaha'ia Sunday

Hawai‘i Conference

Each year on the third Sunday in February, the Sunday closest to the anniversary of Henry 'Ōpūkaha'ia's death, churches are encouraged to honor the legacy of the young Hawaiian credited with inspiring the Sandwich Islands mission that brought Christianity to Hawai'i. This year, on February 20, churches were invited to receive an offering to support the Henry 'Ōpūkaha'ia Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to candidates for ministry attending an accredited seminary and clergy pursuing continuing education. This offering may be collected at any time.

Kahu Sam Masilamoney was the guest speaker at Haili Congregational Church where he stands (pictured above) with church member Lorna Bufil on Henry 'Ōpūkaha'ia Sunday. Lorna put together the floral arrangements for the service.

Kauaha‘ao Congregational Church shared this litany and Service of Thanksgiving & Remembrance as part of their online worship bulletin on February 20, 2022.
