As a first-time attendee, I was somewhat awestruck to be “in” fellowship with hundreds of other delegates from across the country. I experienced the UCC’s diversity in race, language, age, delegates from small churches, large churches, country churches, city churches, Open and Affirming churches, conservative churches etc.

Being in this Committee was very heartfelt, and my most memorable moment of General Synod 35 was when this resolution was introduced to the General Synod floor, all the committee members congregated around the spring of water, just off stage, dipping our hand inside, then to our foreheads to show our solidarity to this resolution. This resolution passed, just as it passed committee, with very minimal additions from the original.

First and foremost, I want to mahalo all individuals and churches that support our Hawaiʻi Conference delegates when we attend General Synods. General Synod 35, in Kansas City, Missouri, was a fabulous experience. We worshipped together, ate, prayed for one another, ate, listened to keynote speakers, ate, learned from our peers and colleagues in ministry and we ate some more! While there was a lot of food, it wasn’t about the food for me, unless you're talking about the food

I guess I could say that God pushed me into the deep water and said, “Swim!” God has a way of doing that and God did that at this General Synod. The resolutions the delegates voted on covered shallow water and deep-water issues.
