Delegates Pass Resolutions on Kalaupapa Memorial and Welcoming Immigrants

Delegates at last week’s 'Aha Pae'aina unanimously passed two resolutions.  Learn more about these and share them with your congregation:

Strategic Planning Process Proposed

The Conference Council, following up on a Conference-wide assessment this last year, focused the agenda on preparing for strategic planning.  Cynthia Scherr, a management consultant from Oregon hired by the Council to facilitate the process, invited ‘Aha participants to write prayers expressing their hopes and visions.  She recommended that the process not begin until an interim conference minister is in place.

Holy Listening Process Introduced

In preparing for a strategic planning process for the Hawai‘i Conference, Caroline Miura, UCC minister and Kaua‘i chaplain, introduced during the first plenary session a "holy listening" process of hearing what someone is saying and feeling without offering judgment or advice.  Caroline recommends reading the book Seven Thousand Ways to Listen by Mark Nepo for people wanting to grow in the area of holy listening.

'Aha Offerings Support UCC and Youth

Two offerings were taken during the Friday and Saturday worship services at last week’s 'Aha Pae'aina.  The first, for Our Church’s Wider Mission, which totaled $1,485, will support the ministries and mission of the United Church of Christ and the Hawai'i Conference.  Saturday’s offering for the Vesper Maile Ito Fund collected $1,767 and will benefit youth ministries of the Hawai'i Conference.
