Soldiers' Chapel Honors Lili‘uokalani's Birth

A commemorative ceremony honoring the 178th anniversary of Queen Lili‘uokalani's birth was held at the Soldiers' Chapel at Schofield Barracks on September 2, 2016.  The service also honored the queen's gift to the Army of the Soldier's Chapel in 1913. The chapel was constructed by merging a standard Army chapel with elements of Queen Lili‘uokalani's commissioned church, and was dedicated by the then-senior minister of Central Union Church and the bishop of the Episcopal Church of Hawai‘i.  Current Central Union Church minister David Rivers and the Episcopal bishop Robert L. Fitzpatrick were present to offer prayers in commemoration of that dedication.
