Frances Leilani Keanu, Pastor of Kalihi and Moanalua Church, died August 19 at the age of 84. Kahu Leilani served as pastor of the church for 29 years, beginning as a lay minister in 1979. She was ordained by the Association of Hawaiian Evangelical Churches (AHEC) in 1999. In addition to her work with Kalihi and Moanalua Church, she served on various boards and committees of AHEC and the Hawai'i Conference, including the Board of Directors and the Church and Ministry Committee of AHEC, the Conference Scholarship and Nominating committees, and she was active in Christian Endeavor and the State Sunday School Association. At the time of her death she was serving on the Church Development Committee of the Hawai'i Conference. "Mom really believed in doing and serving the best she could," said her daughter Genie. "She did her part and a little more." Early in her life, Kahu Leilani was a member of Kawaiaha'o Church and taught Sunday School there. She later joined Kalihi and Moanalua Church, which she considered her home church for most of her life. A memorial service is planned for August 30 at 11:30 a.m. at Kalihi and Moanalua Church.
